Why A Maths Tutor Living In India Might Be Able To Assist Your Children With Their Education
The importance of maths should not be overlooked. All further education establishments and most employers place a high value on the subject. In order to provide their child with the best chance of securing a good grade, many parents will pay for a maths tutor to supplement their child’s learning. There is now a move within some schools within the US and UK to employ Indian based tutors to help our children with maths. Here we examine the concept of outsourcing to Indian tutors and look at the pros and cons.
Overview
A maths tutor in India has the capability to deliver a lesson to a student that is thousands of miles away through a fast internet connection. The pupil wears a headset to hear the tutor and uses a laptop to carry out activities on a computer screen. The tutor is also able to control the laptop, which enables them to provide demonstrations as required.
Examining the Pros
All students are provided with their own individual maths tutor. This means that they have constant direct contact with the tutor and are immediately able to ask any questions when unsure of a topic. As each pupil has their own tutor they are able to receive tuition on specific topics that they may be struggling with. Research suggests that pupils who don’t contribute in class very often are much more likely to ask questions and thus learn when in a one-to-one environment. It has also been discovered that many that find it hard to stay focussed in lesson actually work much better when using a laptop. The final plus that online tuition has to offer is that it usually costs about half as much as the price of hiring a traditional tutor.
The Cons
Whilst there are many pluses for this new way of tutoring, there are those that believe it is a bad option. The crux of their argument is based in the belief that children are more likely to learn when they have an emotional connection with their teacher. Developing this kind of connection over the internet can be hard and especially so when the tutor may change each lesson. There is also the issue of whether the child can always fully understand a teacher that has an accent. The last problem with this kind of tuition is that not all internet connections are reliable; meaning lessons could be interrupted.
