Motorcycles By Honda Surely Have Appealed To Quite A Few Nationalities

Soichiro Honda’s interest was automobiles, but, paradoxically, he designed Honda motorcycles. He started out studying the mechanical facet of automobiles while still a teeenager, working in a repair shop, and he loved racing and fast driving. He knew a lot about driving motorbikes, actually being the owner of a Harley as well as an Indian.

It was only when he was 41, in 1948, that Honda began his Honda Motor Company, but he had already owned an auto repair shop, starting way back in 1928. He believed he had to structure it well, and produce it well, to compete well, so his primary focus was on design, followed by quality. Even with motorcycle profits being on an upward trend in 1953, the economic depression in Japan almost wrecked his company. A small amount of motorcycles had been selling, and since he didn’t want to put people out of work, he kept the factory open. It turned out to be a good decision, because in 1958 the most successful motorcycle ever before, the C100 Super Cub, was launched. The bike was versatile as well as cheap, inside anybody’s reach, driven by a 4-stroke motor with a 3-speed transmission.

Women especially took to it for the objective of commuting, but novice riders of both genders loved it for its ease of use. The recognition of this bike catapulted Honda to the number one position by number of motorcycle makers in 1959. This encouraged them to decide to start extending around the world. They thought that if they could initially capture the United States market, it could start the ball rolling. Endorsement by the American community would signify acceptance by the rest of the world. Honda was first accessible to the American public in June, 1959, in Los Angeles, and by 1960 a person could buy a Honda from any of more than 75 stores.

Bike safety keeps benefiting by Honda’s sustained funding of training courses and dissemination of valuable information for the promotion of motorcycling safety. Over many decades now Honda have proven that their motorcycles tend to be amongst the most reliable around. A few of the big challenges they have taken, have made them such a successful empire in motorcycles.
