There Are Some Things About buying Used Motorcycles That You Should Be Aware Of Before Making A Deal

There have been 3 times in life when folks have told me that I am very controlling. This is not really something that is pleasant to hear. Each time I have heard this I’ve become very defensive and angry, but upon personal reflection I actually realize that the observations were correct. This is not really the greatest feeling, yet I was glad that I have people who care enough about me to point out my mistakes to me. The only way we’re able to grow and change is when we realize what we are really doing wrong.

My latest episode of being very controlling involved my eighteen year old son. He was searching for motorcycles for sale. I wanted him to look at used cars, but no. He isn’t into used cars, because motorcycles are much more attractive than used cars. He had been saving his very own money from a part time job for 2 years. He had talked about having a motorcycle since he was ten years old. I’ve always been concerned about this since I do know that there are lots of people who get seriously hurt and killed in accidents every year.

A couple of weeks prior to his birthday he was taking a look at newspaper advertisements for motorcycles for sale. I went into my full litany about why this actually was not a very good idea. We ended up having an argument and both of us mentioned things that we regretted. I informed him that he wouldn’t own a motorbike while still living at home so he actually threatened to move out and things simply escalated. I was feeling awful and was losing sleep. I did not want to back down from my decision.

One of my co-workers who is also an excellent buddy informed me that I was trying to protect and control my son and in the process was actually losing him. She pointed out that he was actually very responsible. He had held exactly the same job for 2 years and maintained excellent grades in school. He was responsible in driving the family car and he was not really a risk taker. She pointed out that when he was eighteen he would be an adult and I had to give up trying to control his life.

She was right. It was really difficult to hear and admit, but what she was actually saying was absolutely true. I called my husband and asked him if he knew which of the motorcycles for sale our son was interested in. I recommended we help him buy it as a gesture that I will support his decision to have a motorbike and trusted that he will be safe with it. We told our son that evening that we’d help him buy the bike as his birthday gift. I apologized to him. This is one thing that I’ve found has helped in my relationship with our kids, the ability to admit being mistaken and apologizing when I am.
